Does anyone really enjoy running?  Only those genetically built to run can actually enjoy it right?  At least that's the excuse I hide behind.  Today we find that when it comes to faith, God created us to run.  He has designed us with unique attributes to run the race before us.  As we run, we find that we fulfill our role in bearing His image to the world!  Are we doing something with the talents God has designed us with?

We are not called to be spectators in our faith. Jesus calls us to participate in this race of faith we have in life. Not only did Jesus give us an example to follow; we have a history of heroes who have gone before us demonstrating how we can run. So who is encouraging you and how are you running the race this summer?

We need the Word of God for our broken lives to be restored into the likeness of Jesus.  Our world needs the Word of God as the only source for its restoration!  Our world is desperately trying to fix its own problems with the best answers it can find.  But every worldly answer is a lesser gospel that can not address its brokenness.  The world needs us to value the Word of God and help it find its way back to its Creator.

Is my faith only individual and are groups optional?  That’s a question that frames much of our life experience in Jesus.  In Acts we find only 16 verses that describe the first 14 years of Paul’s new life in Jesus.  These 16 verses created the foundation for the next 10 years of Paul’s life on the road.  In these first 16 verses Paul gives a face to the 10,000 unnamed early converts.  How were these converts cared for and discipled?  How did what Paul experienced frame how Paul set up the early church to explode with growth?  The answer to all of these questions is the necessary shift from ‘me’ to ‘we’.

The first Christians were known as people of The Way. People who were fiercely committed to the reality that Jesus is The Only Way, that He alone is the way, the truth, and the life. This led them to form small groups/churches where they were deeply known, cared for, grown, and held accountable to fulfill Jesus’ Great Commandment and Commission. This week we look at The Way and what that means for us today.

Jesus knows if He can redeem our hearts then He can redeem our relationships.  Paul has looked at how our inner transformation should also change our relationships in our church body and our family.  Today Paul looks at the change that can happen in the one relationship that could have been filled with the most tension.  If Jesus can redeem the relationship between masters and slaves, then Jesus can redeem any relationship that is affected by the tension of authority.

What does it mean to be a marriage IN CHRIST?  The church was asking this question.  The city of Ephesus had a dark understanding of what this relationship looked like.  Multiple wives, multiple concubines, multiple trips to the temple for “worship”... In chapter five, Paul spent less time writing about what was prohibited and more time celebrating what Jesus had to offer in the married relationship.  Our marriages as believers are on display for the world to see!  Are we offering a better option than what the world has to offer?

After pumping the Ephesians up in the truths of the Light of Jesus, Paul turns his attention first to how this truth helps us become that same light to the body of Christ. Before we can be a light to the world we have to see this reality in our faith family. God has a big vision for the church at Ephesus. This big vision is only possible if every member realizes they have a role to play and call to answer. God has given us the same call as a church in Monroe! Are we hearing and answering the call He has placed on our lives?

How can we keep our hearts sensitive to this message so that we not only receive this message of grace but reflect this message with changed lives?

We have lived through and are living through a traumatizing time.  Many will probably suffer from some form of PTSD.  The Church in Ephesus was living through a traumatizing time as well.  They could easily ask “What do we do with what has been done to us?”  Instead, Paul redirects their attention and asks “What do you do with this life transforming truth?”  Because the Church focused on this truth their lives were transformed and they experienced Post Traumatic Growth in Christ.  Circumstances change all the time and can negatively affect our lives.  But today choose to follow the Ephesians example and focus on the life transforming truth that overcomes all of life circumstances.

Dan Bushy - Pastor & Missionary. This passage is a call to the church about the great work that Jesus Christ did for us when he died on the cross. It shows us that we can not earn God's righteousness, His forgiveness, His acceptance or His love by our own self-righteous works. We must come to Him in faith for the duration of our Christian walk.

This One Another is the brand that defines us within the Church and to the world around us. We can’t practice any One Another without first understanding how to Love One Another.

This leads us to a life spent loving God, living out the good news, and sharing the gospel wherever God leads us. The gospel is what we love, we live, and we give. Though we did not deserve it God loved us and sent his Son to show us how much loved us. Our response, as followers of Jesus, can't help but be to share that same love with others. Loving People is the natural expression of God’s love for us. What should that look like in our church? If I’m living the L3 Life what does Loving People really look like?

Things were growing out of control for the early Church! The Spirit had empowered them to a vision that was accelerating quicker than expected... The Church became a movement known NOT for it's building, programs, or speaker. Church quickly became identified by its radical love for each other. It was a place where lives were transformed, hearts were cared for, needs were met, and the world was changed. What would Cascade Community Church look like if we were transformed by the Spirit and lived transformed together?

Acts 5-6
The Spirit was doing a huge work in Jerusalem!  But it was just the tip of the iceberg in the vision of what was to come.  How did the Church live in times of such brokenness? If the vision Jesus gave the disciples was going to take hold the people had to own the work!  They couldn’t go to church they had to be the church. If the broken world was going to experience Jesus the Church had to become the Body of Christ.  How will we live in our broken world?

I’m sure the disciples were struggling with “I miss Jesus”, things aren’t going to be the same without Him”  The voice that had led them for three years was gone… But Jesus didn’t leave them without a Vision. Jesus was gone but He gave them a ministry statement and a vision to run with.  GO into all the nations and make disciples. Today we will find ourselves in the story of Acts chapter 2 and be encouraged to hear that God has given us a strong vision to run with.
